I know the criteria for sainthood George, what I am not convinced about is: Praying to them and The veracity of the miracles attributed to them for qualifying.

For catechism class today a grade of "F", may be a "F+" since you are Goan ;-)) There are 100s of prayers to saints, including for them to intercede to make a miracle - it is one of the criteria for becoming a "blessed" or "saint" that at least one miracle be attributed to the person (the most recent high profile case was John Paul II which allows his elevation to sainthood).
