The January 12th Narendra Modi rally in Goa “Vijay Sankalp” is being organized by the BJP near Panaji on the agricultural fields along the Merces - Ribandar bypass. A political party mela being organized with blatant all out misuse of government machinery.
Without the consent of the farmers owning those fields the BJP hounds last week high-handedly barged and trespassed into the fields with heavy duty earth moving machinery. The Chief Minister misused his power by getting a posse of police to guard the area round the clock to prevent and deter the farmers from protesting. The obviously very infuriated 50 odd farmers on Sunday stopped the BJP agents from interfering with their fields. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar stepped in and assured the farmers Rs.10, 000/- each as compensation to allow the rally to be held. The farmers were told to come and meet him for that compensation. Yesterday, when those farmers went they were chased away by Mr. Manohar Parrikar asking them to get lost and that they would get nothing. What “Vijay Sankalp” is this, Mr. CM? These are poor Niz Goenkar farmers. They are Goa’s Aam Aadmi into whose fields you have unlawfully trespassed. Over the last 40 years we have never ever witnessed such high handed abuse of power and authority by any government. Shame on you Mr. Chief Minister. You have intruded into the lands of these poor farmers which is their only bread and butter and you have further had the audacity to abuse them in this manner. Narendra Modi and Manohar Parrikar could be assured of being showered with the curses of these underprivileged toiling farmers who have been so shabbily treated by a government which had promised a Parivartan. Goans are today ever so sore that they have landed from the frying pan into the fire for having blundered in trusting Manohar Parrikar. I am reminded of the recent words of Father Eremito Rebello “The sooner Parrikar goes the better for Goa”. God save our Goa.
