BIRDS OF GOA BY HEINZ LAINER AND RAHUL ALVARES The Amazing New Book on Goa's 440+ Birds Heinz Lainer -- with 35 years of bird watching experience -- and Rahul Alvares -- snakeman and wildlife photographer -- get together to produce this splendid new book on the Birds of Goa for the season of 2013.The beautiful volume is published by the Forest Department, Government of Goa in association with the Goa Foundation. Birds of Goa is a great combination of science and art. You will find authoritative information on the habitat, population, distribution, migration, breeding status and any other locally relevant data of all the 440+ bird species. It has hundreds of pictures of birds, exquisite, extraordinary, always in action. Never thought so many "feathered friends" have holed up in such a small corner of the planet. In fact, most people will depart this earth without even having seen these beauties. About the authors: Heinz Lainer was born in 1943 in war-time Germany. He got seriously interested in birdwatching and birdbanding while schooling and studying chemistry at Munich University. After travelling extensively in Africa and Asia in his twenties, he settled down in Goa in 1974 where he has been residing since almost without interruption. Here he took up ornithology in right earnest, travelling widely in India but concentrating mainly on Goa's birdlife. He has published a number of papers on it in the Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society. Rahul Alvares was born in 1980 and today conducts his own bird and snake excursions into some of the best wildlife areas of Goa. During his spare time, he edits an on-line newsletter on his work called The Creepy Times. He juggles his wildlife career with being a myofacial trigger point therapist. In 2004, Alvares was selected for the 'The Young Naturalist Award' by Sanctuary and ABN-Amro Bank. In 2008, he was nominated for the 'Carl Zeiss Wildlife Commitment' Award. His earlier books, Free from School and The Call of the Snake have gone into several editions. ------------------------- -------------------------
