Dr. Gulshan Relhan in his inaugural speech remarked that, “it is important for the young people to know the reality of environment.” He mentioned about various discoveries made by scientists and their contributions to the development of science and the common man. He also made a special mention about his belief that, “Chemistry is the mother of all inventions.” He concluded by saying that, “there should be a sustainable development which can be achieved by preserving the environment.”

Later Dr. Tushar Anvekar, Seminar Co-ordinator proposed the vote of thanks. The inaugural programme ended with the singing of the college anthem and was compered by Dr. Teotone Vaz.

Dr. B. E. Kumara Swamy delivered the keynote address on the topic, ‘Cyclic Voltammetry and its Applications in Research.’ His presentation included salient features of electroanalytical techniques and its advantages along with fabrication of the basic equipments. He explained the concept of cyclic voltammetry, the different parameters involved in cyclic voltamogram and its wide application in the development of sensors for dopamine in the presence of ascorbic acid and uric acid. He also mentioned the recent development in the technique for ‘neurochemical measurements.’

The first technical session by Dr. Vikas Pissurlekar, Associate Professor, PES College, Ponda was on the topic, ‘Impact of global warming and ozone depletion on environment.’ Dr. Pissurlekar during his session touched upon some of the major issues affecting the environment like ‘melting of glaciers’, ‘impact of mining on the environment’ along with their consequences.
