We need to strongly condemn Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for very high-handedly approving yet another foreign tour by Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar despite the State treasury facing a financial crisis and even struggling to pay government employees their monthly salaries.
It is deplorable that the multi scams tainted Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar is scheduled to lead a delegation on a 13 day tour to the Gulf countries besides Turkey squandering lakhs of rupees of a financially debt ridden government. This tour is another State sponsored junket for Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar. A criminal waste of public funds while the State reels in acute financial turmoil. Chief Minister Parrikar while as Leader of Opposition had strongly objected to overseas trips by Ministers. As part of the promised Parivartan the Chief Minister should have put a total embargo on foreign tours by Ministers. This government over the last two years has wasted crores of rupees on organizing road shows across the world to promote Goa as a tourist destination. If the government had instead cared to improve the crumbling infrastructure, Goa would have sold by itself attracting high end decent tourists by the droves. The haphazard planning, improper sanitation and the uncontrollable stray animal menace all over is projecting Goa in bad light. It is further highly lamentable that Goa very sadly has become a gambling destination, besides a very safe haven for the narcotic trade and the flourishing menace of prostitution. The alarming number of rapes, murders and burglaries has further made the once serene Goa now a very unsafe destination while diverting tourists to other destinations.
