I am not an expert on such matters but I agree with Augusto and FN, The little I know of the subject is as follows:
a: I trust 'surge protectors' but not that much. b: I trust them even less during a thunderstorm. c: During a thunderstorm, another event can occur ie. the dipping of voltages. d: Our voltage stabilizer in Velim would audio-indicate the swings. e: These Dips are noted to be as good to sensitive electronic equipment as the Surges are, which is NOT good at all. f: Then, one day ....during a thunderstorm, the Voltage Stabiliser was knocked out; and it is not like the there was a 'direct hit'. g: All and Sundry are welcome NOT to unplug their electrical appliances during a thunderstorm. We take the precaution and do the needful. h: It is not that I do not trust the Surge Protectors and their Warranty. I actually do, BUT not that much. jc > On May 18, 2014, at 4:42 AM, Frederick FN Noronha फ्रेड्रिक नोरोन्या > *فريدريك نورونيا <fredericknoro...@gmail.com> wrote: > > Gabe, don't place Augusto on the backfoot because he lives in Goa! > > Instead, see: > > Do surge protectors actually protect from lightning damage? > http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1228231
