-- Samir Umarye BICHOLIM: Riyaz Beig was today elected as the deputy chairman of the Bicholim Municipal council (BMC) by 6-4 votes.
It may be recalled that in the 10 member BMC the post of deputy chairman had fallen vacant after Narayan Betkikar tendered his resignation. Today, the election to the post was held in the BMC hall. Riyaz Beg and Premanand Mayekar had filed their nominations for the post. Riyaz Beg was elected as the deputy chairman by 6-4 votes. Those who voted for Riyaz included Kamlakar Teli, Riyaz Beg, Narayan Betkikar, Balu Birje, Kamlesh Teli and Karuna Govekar. Speaking to reporters later Riyaz Beg told that they have submitted a no-confidence motion against the chairman, Anisha Gaonkar. “Soon we would have BJP panel on the BJP and I would work for the development of the city.” Beg told.
