Actually I inteded to respond to this debate earlier, but it moved too fast for me to keep track! For some reason (maybe it's more fun taking on academics who are more brainwashed by such ideas ... no offence to friends in academia, we all suffer from the limitations of our respective professions), I made a couple of posts to the Goa-Research-Net on the issue of "intellectual property". By extension, copyright, and plagarism.
You can see: Recent posts on GRN http://groups.yahoo.com/group/goa-research-net/ My initial flame-bait http://groups.yahoo.com/group/goa-research-net/message/1718 George Pinto's "should all property be shared?" post http://groups.yahoo.com/group/goa-research-net/message/1719 My not-so-original set of arguments, which I argue, is as lacking in originality as those of the "intellectual property" orthodoxy (thought they may not admit it as openly) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/goa-research-net/message/1720 Incidentally, I was surprised to learn that GoaResearchNet completes 10 years shortly! Time flies! Congrats, Teo for keeping it alive and kicking.
