Sorry, notice a small typo, it should read '...a liking for Portuguese India after *WWII*...' and not WWI as written. JP ------------------------------ From: joao_c...@hotmail.com To: reply.goanet.n...@gmail.com; gn-n...@goanet.org Subject: RE: [Goanet-News] Goa Question of The Day: Scambi Economici SA Goa Date: Wed, 20 Aug 2014 10:27:13 +0000 Hi Fred, Baron Ludovic Toelitz was an Italian enterpreneur from Italy (Trieste area I suspect, that was Austrian territory in WWI, hence his Germanic name). He had founded this company Scambi Economici SA way back in 1954 and subsequently this became Sesa Goa Pvt Ltd as we know it today. This is documented in Sesa Goa's webpage on Digital Goa website. http://www.digitalgoa.com/sesagoa German, Austrian and Italians did have a liking for Portuguese India after WWI when three German and one Italian merchant ships were anchored in Mormugao. Some stayed back but some who traded with Goa via Mormugao were aware of Goa's rich mineral resources. Hence I am not surprised that one of them realized there was money to be made in mining in Goa and decided to invest in a profitable business. BTW, I do collect share certificates of mining companies in Goa... but haven't got one for Scambi Economici SA yet!
