The Supreme Court has today very rightly pointed out that to uphold constitutional morality the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers should not appoint as Ministers persons against whom corruption charges are pending. In Goa there is a corruption case pending against Chief Minister Manohar Parikar himself besides a case of cheating and corruption against Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar. A case of disproportionate assets is pending against Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Rajendra Arlekar while a criminal case stands registered against Deputy Speaker Anant Shet who was caught red handed with unaccounted money while on the campaign trail at the last Assembly elections.
Ministers once under the scanner should immediately demit office to pave way for a free and fair probe and the Court proceeding that follows. This will go a long way in enhancing the much needed probity in public life.
