Pe. Vaz may have been born in Portuguese times, but he's a considered an Indian. Stephen's illogical theories astound me, and should astound sensible people. He wants the Vatican to declare Pe. Vaz as a "Goan saint." The Goa archidiocese already has given Pe. Vaz pride of place as Patron of Goa. Pe. Jose became a Sri Lankan for all practical purposes. He didn't consider himself a Goan, though he was born by birth. This fact cannot be taken away. Pe. Vaz dedicated his life and died in the cause of Sri Lankan Christianity. Not to declare him a Saint of Sri Lanka would be grave injustice to his work and life, as much as to the Christians (Catholics) of Sri Lanka. Stephen's suggestion does not carry any conviction. Today's opinion piece in Navhind Times should be useful reading. == eugene
