DISTANT MUSIC
Two Novels: The Gunnysack Castle and The Death of Mae Ramos
By Julian Silva
The Gunnysack Castle concerns itself with an ambitious and successful
Portuguese-American who
attempts to duplicate his business success in the raising of his family.
Rather than a single story, The Death of Mãe Ramos concerns itself with the
many and recurring
stories, names, and attitudes, which move from one generation to another in a
Portuguese family.
Julian Silva, a resident of San Francisco, was raised in San Lorenzo.
This book is a publication of the Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture, UM
Dartmouth.
