PANJIM MILITARY LAND IS BACK TO PANJIMITES This is with reference to press reports coming from a section of Press about the decision taken by our Minister Manohar Parrikar who was earlier our Chief Minister of Goa to get back the military land occupied by them around Panjim. After previous attempts to persuade military officials to give back the land given by our predecessors from Goa Government our Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar managed to convince his Defence Ministry to get our existing plots in Panjim, occupied by the 2 Signal Training Centre (2STC). If that goes through the Goa Government expects to utilize this space/ area for four wheeler parking. Earlier there were many attempts by the CCP when ex-Mayor Surendra Furtado was in power but he could not succeed due to non acceptance of his request at that time by Goa Government. Now, the credit should go to Parrikar for all his efforts to get back these areas because he knows that conditions for parking in Panjim are in bad shape. I expect that he will slowly get rid of the entire establishment in Panjim occupied by the military including their military Hospital. This Hospital will better serve the military families if it is shifted close to their residential areas at Bambolim or Curca. Once it is shifted it will be better if military trucks, school buses and other big vehicles do not enter Panjim which is already suffocated with traffic and also there are plans to stop heavy vehicular traffic entering the city.
