Over the last two months in the long drawn heated Mickky Pacheco saga there were interesting moments in Goa’s Judiciary.
During the proceedings Margao Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Pooja Kavlekar had the spine to tell Special Public Prosecutor Mahesh Amonkar that he it was not proper for him to appear before her as she had once worked under him. Was it not an irony that Pooja Kavlekar had to inject her once senior Mahesh Amonkar a dose on professional ethics? As to why Mahesh Amonkar was appointed as Special Public Prosecutor to further shield Mickky Pacheco, less said the better. Every Judge having to Judiciously exercise his discretion, Margao JMFC Bosco Roberts who on 22nd April was holding charge of Pooja Kavlekar’s Court rightly after asking Colva Police Inspector Uttam Raut Desai issued a search warrant to look out for the then fugitive Mickky Pacheco at 10 Akbar Road the official residence of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. If Judge Roberts was to hold a detailed inquiry before issuing that search warrant the mouse would have slipped into another hole. Judges with the caliber and acumen of Pooja Kavlekar and Bosco Roberts are a hope for those thirsting for Justice. On the other hand Judges with links to the RSS who would rather act as caged parrots and surrender to the BJP are a peril to the Justice delivery system. Such elements need to be flushed out to ensure that the independence of the temples of justice are not further dented and desecrated. Justice should be insulated from political machinations.
