* * * GUJ calls on Sunaparant management The Goa Union of Journalists today Thursday 30 July 2015 intervened in the matter of closure of Konkani daily Sunaparant, when the management came to discuss the proposal withSunaparant employees today evening. In the meeting held with GUJ officials, which lasted for around 30 minutes, the Sunaparantmanagement said they had to close down the newspaper since the Government of Goa paid mere lip service to support the loan Konkani newspaper in Goa’s official language, thus resulting into huge amount of unbearable losses. It has become economically unviable to run a newspaper. The management also conveyed to the GUJ officials that it has taken all the measures of settlement laid down under concerned laws, including the retrenchment benefits as well as gratuity, provident fund etc. to all the 27 employees of Sunaparant. The GUJ also discussed the issue of loans taken by some of the Sunaparant employees, which the management agreed to deal on case-to-case basis, in the interest of concerned employees. GUJ will meet the management once again in case any dispute arises and injustice is meted out to any of their member while closing down the 28-year old Konkani daily.
