I was touched by the article in The Guardian on Mandela's South African trial
comrades.

This is a story of courage and bravery, of suffering endured for a democratic
multiracial society by the men who fought for it. At the end of their lives,
they held no offices and their lives were no more affluent than when they began.

India had its share of such people too. Lal Bahadur Shastri a previous Prime
Minister and the various communist leaders who were frequently jailed and whose
lives ended in the same slums where they were born. They could have easily
betrayed their cause and the people who followed them and become wealthy but
they were made of the tough material of Mandela, Mbiki, Goldberg and Kathrada.

They are a lost race. God bless them.
