*Education should be Need based rather than Certificate based*

Naik* *2137, Near Swami Math, * *Gogol, Margao * *Goa -403602* *Contact No: 9823458875 * *0832-2759555* Dt.: 21-02-2016 *PRESS NOTE* Shri Ashok Dessai former Director of Education and presently serving as Officer on Special Duty to the Minister of Power said that education should be need based rather than Certificate based and that it should have a learning oriented base. Mr Dessai who was the Chief Guest for one day workshop, organized by Higher Secondary Teachers’ Association (HISTAG), Goa in collaboration with Directorate of Education on the subject of “Future Policies at +2 Level”, further said that each school should have a teachers’ Welfare and Grievances Committee, so that, the issues pertaining to the teachers’ welfare and general grievances of teachers and students are addressed in an organized manner. The workshop was organized on Saturday at Walawalkar Higher Secondary School, Mapusa Goa. Mr Michael D’Souza, Additional Secretary (Finance) to the Government of Goa, who was invited by HISTAG, as a Resource Person, to speak on “Budgetary Provisions for Education in Goa Budget”, said that Budgetary provisions for Education in Goa is on higher side compared to any other neighboring states, and advised educational institutions in the State to utilize School Maintenance grants in a rational manner. He further opined that Education should have a complete separate Budget from the General Budget so that more resources can be generated for uplifting education. Shri Bhagirath Shetye, Deputy Director of Education, who was the Guest of Honour said that, “Excellent” or “Outstanding’” answer papers should be made available on the Board’s website, with the provision to download the same, and that, he also suggested Honorarium to the teachers for examination should be enhanced to Rs 10/- or to Rs.15/- irrespective of maximum marks of subjects. Presiding over the function, Mrs Beena S. Naik said that HISTAG had organized, recently, a workshop “On Web Literacy and Google Tools” in South Goa to equip the teachers with latest web tools in education. She further informed that the executive members of HISTAG also visited some Higher Secondary Schools from South to know and understand the issues pertaining to the teachers. She appealed to the teachers that HISTAG would take up the issues pertaining to the teachers with the Government, in case the same are conveyed to the association in writing. Mr Shripad Bhat the General Secretary of Histag gave a welcome speech, Mrs Maya Kharangate compered the proceedings of the function, Mr Anant Pissurlekar Co-ordinated the various sessions of the workshop and Mr. Hemant Sail presented the Vote of thanks. *BEENA S.
