A Pakistani Christian ex-colleague lost his job in the UAE and could not get another one. He was faced with the option of returning to Pakistan but preferred to emigrate, primarily for economic reasons. He managed to get a tourist visa to Canada for himself, wife and 5 kids. On arrival at Toronto airport he declared "I apply for asylum as a Christian likely to be persecuted in Pakistan for my religious beliefs". He was admitted. As promised by the lawyer a routine hearing was held within 60 days and he was granted refugee status. Last month, after completing 3 plus years he received his PR and can now apply for full citizenship.
