The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) comprising of Retired District Judge A.D.Salkar and Mr.J.A Keny has today issued notices to the Chief Secretary and Director of Municipal Administration seeking their replies on December 16th to the complaint filed over the lack of a proper crematorium for the residents of Fonduvem in Ribandar
The Commissioner of Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) in his reply today submitted to the GHRC that the residents of Fonduvem could use the crematorium at St Inez in Panaji till such time the Government provides a separate crematorium at Ribandar. This is the craziest possible stand taken by the CCP. The authorities are duty bound to provide a proper crematorium for the residents of Fonduvem in Ribandar. Fr the Fonduvem ward at Ribandar the ‘Shree Pandurang Devasthan’ has been struggling over the last few decades to get an appropriate Crematorium. The authorities have miserably failed to ensure that the 100 odd households in the locality are bestowed a proper crematorium for their final rites. The authorities need to explain as to how they have in violation of the Human Rights of the 100 odd families of Fonduvem ward at Ribandar failed to provide a proper crematorium.
