Former Chief Secretary of Goa Dr J.C Almeida while expressing deep anguish over the current destruction and devastation of Goa has lamented that Goa was now gone and not salvageable.
Dr Almeida was speaking at the condolence meeting organized in memory of former Chief Minister Shashikala Kakodkar by the then student leaders of the 1979 agitation for 50% bus concession. Pointing out to the rampant corruption and bad governance that has engulfed the State, Dr Almeida recollected how bureaucrats during the tenure of Chief Minister Dayanand Bandodkar and later under Shashikala Kakodkar strictly functioned within the parameters of law. Dr Almeida also highlighted various people oriented legislations that were introduced by the then MGP governments. Presiding over the function former student leader and now South Goa Principal and District Judge Desmond D’Costa called for a concerted effort to preserve Goa’s fading identity. Former Student leaders paid rich tributes to the late Shashikala Kakodkar and hailed her bold decision to grants students of Goa 50% bus concession despite her government being under heavy pressure of the bus owners lobby.
