Since I was born, worked in Govt office and retired from East Africa. I find following description by Roland a true picture of the Goan society in that part of Africa.
Roland states: ''There is a well established common perception ..... that all Goans led a meek civil servant type of life completely beholden to their British employers and settlers since their existence in Africa depended on it.'' Goan bakers, butchers, businessmen, doctors, politicians, yes, but they could be counted in single lower digits in each town of East Africa, but Goan diplomats,Good Lord ! perhaps some Goan businessmen acting as Portuguese Consuls.
