Normally gentlemen sport a white carnation in their lapels.

But two well dressed and well known fashionistas extraordinaire broke the
carnation barrier and wore roses.

Nehru, prime minister of India wore a blood red rose on his jacket, the latter
better known as Sherwani which later was commonly called throughout
international circles as a Nehru jacket. He was so fastidious that he sent his
clothes to be laundered in Paris via an Air India flight every Tuesday ever
since it started operations in 1946.

The senior Trudeau, a playboy in his earlier political years and a fan of
socialist Nehru, took to wearing a rose in the style of his senior, except he
chose light or pastel hues of the rose instead of blood red. Nehru's
fastidiousness was replaced by Trudeau's flamboyance complimented by a wild
Margaret. The husband and wife made a headline pair.

Common to both N and T was intelligence, education and a keen desire to use
socialism to its best benefits. Ismaili, Goan and even Ugandan black refugees
from Idi Amin found a home in Canada, thanks to Pierre Elliott Trudeau.
