CALLING NHAI The recent lED fixtures on Nh17 is a most welcome gesture. The bright lights illuminate the roads very well, But unfortunately much of the light is diffused, blocked by thick foliage spreading over the breadth of the road, The branches abutting on to the main road need immediate trimming, Besides these falling branches pose a serious threat to vehicle owners and constantly short circuit the electric connections The yearly half hearted ritual before monsoons is not worthy of this formal exercise, The property on either side of the NH17 was acquired way back in 1998, but still the trees cause major nuisance and there is no need of formal permission from forest department. to clear them
The speed breakers whether humps, rumblers need regular maintenance by way of fixing sign boards on either side of speed breakers and painting them for better visibility and avoiding accidents, but sadly AUTHORITIES that sanction the installation rarely bother of painting, safety and nobody owns any responsibility After hot mixing the roads, the sides were raised considerably leading to dangerous inclines and slopes and that has lead to dangerous accidents fortunately not fatal so far. All attempts to make the authorities level the slides have persistently fallen on deaf ears but with vague promises, The inclines at end of hot mixed roads, specially the stretch of road on NH17 from St Sebastain Chapel to Dandeavdo junction is still left unattended and are crying for swift action Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
