Canada has F. policy in sync. with >> USA and NATO members. More hockey and Budweiser please! MD clearly you did not review the speech, so I've included the text below for you to read. The document is inductive of a fundamental shift of how the world sees the USA. Some Americans have chosen to abandon the very essence and ideals that makes America great. Clearly this is a mix of selfishness, a false sense of pride, and fear. Not to worry. America is a very large, strong, intelligent and resilient country. Wisdom will prevail beyond the quirks of the electoral system. It's easy to wag the tail, difficult to wag the dog. Momentum, however, is lost. International relationships that have taken seven decades to build have been severely shaken. All of this in less that 150 days. When momentum is lost, other pull ahead. Notice there is sadness but no lament from Europe, Mexico, Canada, Europe, Middle East, China, or even the Russians. The tone is, 'Thank you, We are working for a better tomorrow.' BTW, I think you are being taken in but the heavy USA, USA, slam-style advertising hype during ballgames. No one drinks Bud in Canada. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooOBgqlqrPc And, hats on backwards...I don't think so. Utterly, not Canadian- AP Address by Minister Freeland on Canada?s foreign policy priorities Speech link: https://www.canada.ca/en/global-affairs/news/2017/06/address_by_ ministerfreelandoncanadasforeignpolicypriorities.html MY RESPONSE: You say: Wisdom will prevail beyond the quirks of the electoral system. However, the unique electoral system was devised for the purpose it serves. Remember HRC received more than 3m popular votes but that does not give equal representation. They say new broom sweeps clean, so while there is no change in basic international order, rest of the quirks will eventually settle. Thanks for the link for: Address by Freeland on Canada’s foreign policy priorities Speech https://www.canada.ca/en/global-affairs/news/2017/06/address_by_ ministerfreelandoncanadasforeignpolicypriorities.html The write-up-speech says: Let me pause here and address the United States, directly. As the Prime Minister said last week: Canada is deeply disappointed by the decision by the U.S. federal government to withdraw from the Paris Agreement (Accord-not agreement) on climate. Paris Climate Change Accord, one of Obama’s legacies, has pros and cons. A fair account as to why President Trump opted out is in this link: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/jun/01/donald-trump-confirms-us-will-quit-paris-climate-deal Projected Funding Needs: The UNFCCC has estimated a requirement of US$ 200-210 billion in additional investment in 2030 to return GHG emissions to the current level. Further, additional investment needed worldwide for adaptation is estimated to be US$ 60-182 billion in 2030 by UNFCC, inclusive of an expenditure of US$ 28-67 billion in developing countries. Incremental investment needed by developing countries for adapting to projected impacts of climate change is estimated US$ 10-40 billion per anum by the World Bank and Oxfam estimates this number to be US$ 50 billion per annum. The UNDP estimates that incremental investment needed for adaptation alone could amount to US$ 86 billion per annum. Not only do these numbers vary widely among themselves, they are a fraction of UNFCCC’s own estimate that peg the incremental cost of addressing climate change at 0.3-0.5% of global GDP or a revised estimate of 2% of global GDP. At current levels of global GDP this range translates to US$ 165 billion to US$ 1.1 trillion. So far I do not see any contribution to UN sponsored Green Climate fund by major polluters, other than the USA. The write up has praise galore but also says: To rely solely on the U.S. security umbrella would make us a client state-but facts speak for themselves. It further says: It is important, and historic, that we have a prime minister and a government proud to proclaim ourselves feminists. Women’s rights are human rights. That includes sexual reproductive rights and the right to safe and accessible abortions. These rights are at the core of our foreign policy. See below: ‘It’s Absurd’: How Saudi Arabia Ended Up on the UN Women’s Rights Commission http://fortune.com/2017/04/25/un-womens-rights-saudi-arabia/ Saudi Arabia's election to UN women's commission draws ire http://edition.cnn.com/2017/04/25/world/saudi-arabia-un-womens-commission-trnd/index.html Lastly, Canada, a country known for major beer brands like Molson and Labatt, prefers Budweiser (bud lite?) http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2015/03/23/favourite-beer-canada-most-popular_n_6924776.html <http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2015/03/23/favourite-beer-canada-most-popular_n_6924776.html> Without prejudice Regards MD
