Thanks....Bhakti Bhakti wins Second Prize In International WGM Chess Festival Goa's Golden girl and woman Grandmaster Bhakti Kulkarni continued riding waves of success when she won second prize in the International Woman Grandmaster Chess Festival at Erfurt,Germany yesterday. The former Commonwealth Gold medallist finished half a point behind ultimate winner -Romanian WGM Mahela Sandu (7.5). The Goa Carbon Ltd goodwill Ambassador seeded 13th went on scoring stunning victories on final days to bag a seat in the next year's "Young Master's Tournament to be organised by the German Chess Federation. Bhakti embarked on rigorous 36 hour journey as soon as she finished valedictory function at Mysore where she had won the National Challenger title. Dashing from airports to airports she reached German town of Erfort in time to attend the inaugural function. The Goan lass started sedately squandering promising positions in the begining due to jet lag and fatigue. However she recovered soon and finished her campaign in style overwhelming WGM Jovanna Rapport in the final round. International master Jonathan Carlsfedt who was commenting forchess24.com was all praise for Bhakti's fighting spirit. "Any other girl would have been happy to take short draws in her place. But Bhakti went for win in every game and even managed to win a Blitz tournament in between," gushed IM Carlsfedt. "My biggest problem was to reach Erfurt in time. I was in high spirit after National Challengers. So just went ahead in the same mode," admitted the former Asian Woman Champion. Bhakti plays now at Prague Summer Chess Festival where she had to miss the first round due to clashing of tournaments. The Czechtour organisers had bestowed a rare honour on Bhakti by publishing her photo on the front page of their Prague Summer International Open brochure onczechtour.net.
