My friend, Sephen Luscombe of the British Empire site has recently introduced me to a book by a Tanganyika African(Godfrey Mwakikagile) titled, "Life in Tanganyika in the Fifties". It is an interesting book which gives an account of colonial Tanganyika from an African perspective, and of life in Tanganyika in the 1950s. A look at race relations between whites and blacks and others in this East African country are some of the subjects covered in the book. It's full of human interest stories including the author's who was born and brought up in Tanganyika. Most of the white settlers who constitute an important part of this study were British. Although the book concentrates on Tanganyika/Tanzania, I feel it is of general East African interest too and may interest those of us who lived in East Africa and others too. My apologies in case any of you had already heard of this book. I am in touch with the author.
