The General Data Protection Regulation is a new, European-wide law that replaces the Data Protection Act 1998 in the UK. It places greater obligations on how organisations handle personal data. It comes into effect on 25 May 2018. The really big issue facing us Goans at the moment is, though, the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) which will also have an effect on clubs and associations and how they store and use their members’ personal data. The Information commissioner’s office Phone helpline is aimed at people running small businesses or charities. To access the new service dial the ICO helpline https://ico.org.uk/global/contact-us/helpline/ on 0303 123 1113 and select option 4 to be diverted to staff who can offer support. This dedicated advice line offers help to small organisations preparing for the new data protection law, including the General Data Protection Regulation. https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-the-general-data-protection-regulation-gdpr/ *** UK London 27 May 2018: Goans have Talent an evening of Song, Music Comedy Traditional Goan Snacks and a meal.
