The National Defence Academy (NDA) located in Khadakvasla near Poona is the premier and most prestigious officer training school for commissioned ranks in the 3 branches of the Indian armed forces. Cadets earn a place there after strict tests directly after high school.
Most of the current and past service chiefs are alumni of the NDA and it goes without saying that this institution has the best facilities that you can find anywhere in Asia. As a cadet here, you are trained not only to become a Services officer but also earn an undergrad degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) at New Delhi. Therefore to have such an occurrence in the NDA is tantamount to corruption in India tainting one of its most hallowed institutions. Never thought I’d ever see this happen but with the increasing politicization of the Services at the top ranks, this sadly reflects the general breakdown of moral character in the country.
