Delighted to learn that efforts are being made to teach Konkani
16 and a half years after arriving in Goa and assiduously trying to learn
spoken Konkani, I feel confident enough to converse with folks in Goa.
However I still feel befuddled and challenged by the variety of sub-dialects
that exist in Goa. The Konkani spoken by Hindus appears to be different from
that spoken by Christians. There also appear to be differences based on regions
viz. Salcette vs Bardez, and also caste differences. The Konkani spoken by
Christians appears to be more influenced by Portuguese than that spoken by
Hindus.
Is there a standard official version of Konkani ? And will it be addressed
in the Konkani course at TSKK \/
