Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] .in Tel : 2410864 _____________________________________________________________________________________ 15th June, 2007 PRESS RELEASE The Commissioner of Excise today cancelled the bar license given to INOX GOA by order dated 14thJune 2007 .The Inox has been given one months time to clear the liquor stock and surrender the license on or before 15thJuly 2007.The order will take effect from 15th July onwards. In the order the Commissioner ruled that educational institutions were 60m from Inox hence it violated the Excise Act and the Commissioner has no powers to grant license under such circumstances. The Inox and Kingfisher Lounge had issued advertisements in the local dailies giving inducements to public to consume liquor had also violated the Excise Duty Act and rules. The Commissioner also agreed with the apprehension raised by the complainants that there is a threat to women and children. The order was given in the matter wherein a complaint was lodged by various womens organization under the banner of Campaign against Alcohol in Theatres spearheaded by Bailancho Saad. A show cause notice was issued to Inox on 25th April. Personal hearings were held wherein the womens organizations were represented by Ms Sabina Martins and the Inox was represented by Adv Dhingra and Manager Deepak Shrivatsava. Campaign against Alcohol in Theatres today welcomed the order of the Excise Commissioner .CAAT had earlier held a demonstration in front of the excise Commissioners office to protest the delay in passing the order in Inox bar issue. In the meantime CAAT stated that it will call on the Chief Minister to follow up the demands made by them with respect to a policy decision not to grant alcohol licenses in theatres, strict implement the excise law and formulation of an alcohol policy for the state keeping the welfare of women and children uppermost in mind.
