Goa and India needs to hug real issues Our political leaders have been elected to provide us with good infrastructure, transform India into a developed Nation and make quality of life better for its citizens. They are failing to do that and hence diversionary tactics are being used from time to time. Yesterday it was "Padmavati". Today it is "Sidhu's hug". Tomorrow it will be something else. The real issues need prime time discussion. Not these petty ones which majority are least bothered about. Real issues that affect the people on a day to day basis and can make their lives better. Let us analyse whether "good governance" is really happening at the pace at which it should.
Has corruption stopped? No. Is a good public mobility plan put in place? No. Has traffic situation improved. No. Are files in bureaucracy moving faster? No. Is efficiency in our Government offices better? No. Has our Judicial system improved and are Court cases being disposed off faster? No. Are our systems being modernised to make them more efficient? No. Has our education system been overhauled to make it more children friendly and boost critical thinking? No. Look at the irony of all this. In 1988, Navjot Singh Sidhu was involved in a road rage case where one Gurnam Singh was beaten up. He succumbed to his injuries and died. It took 30 long years for our Judicial system to take this case to its logical conclusion and what did the Courts do? Let him escape with a paltry fine of Rs 1000/-. In the "in between" years, same Sidhu was hugged by the BJP and now by the Congress. No questions asked. Shouldnt these be our real issues for discussion? Similar will be the case with Salman Khan who was hugged by Modi who even flew Kites with him on Makarsakranti. Have our citizens forgotten all this? When someone is with you, he is an angel and when same person is on the other side, he becomes a villain. Why do people allow political parties along with their "paid pipers in the media" chart the course of our thinking? When they want , the hug becomes a good deed. Remember 1999 when Vajpayee took a bus to Lahore and hugged Nawaz Sharif in a gesture which was widely considered as a diplomatic breakthrough? Now suddenly the hug becomes bad? What kinds of double standards are these? Our State and our Country is reeling under too many problems which we need to sort out. India must be transformed into a developed Nation on par with the best in the World. For this to happen people need to start rationslising every issue and not blindly follow what is dictated to them by their leaders. As for Sidhu's hug, who really cares! Warm regards Sandeep Heble
