To be fair to Paulo, he doesn't compare the two. He has no doubt in
his mind. The pre-1961 times were far better, infinitely superior.
There can be no confusion over that. And since "Goans" were calling
the shots then -- in the administration and everywhere else -- how
could you even call that colonialism? QED. --FN
PS: Should we be caught up with history, legal issues or the ground
reality as it affects people (both positively and negatively) in
current-day Goa. Or it did in the past? Read "Domnic's Goa" for a very
unromanticised Goa that existed before 1961 (and for some time
thereafter too).
