Goan FC extend lead at the top; Signals stun Salgaocar
Goan FC maintained their unbeaten run in the Goa Professional League
with a narrow 1-0 win over Panjim Footballers at Duler Stadium, Mapusa,
on Friday.
Meanwhile, Salgaocar FC were beaten 0-2 by Corps of Signals at 3MTR
ground.
The Young Gaurs are at the top with 29 points from 11 games while Panjim
Footballers are in 11th position with 4 points from 10 games.
Savior Gama’s 40th minute header was enough to seal the three points for
Goan FC. The goal at the right time when Goan FC struggled to score and
take their chances. Goan FC saw their star midfielder Nestor Dias being
sent off for his reckless tackle on Panjim Footballer player at the half
hour mark.
After near misses from Princeton and Aaren, it was Savior Gama who came
with the much needed breakthrough when Aaren played a aerial cross in
the box and Savior nodded home, 1-0.
Goan FC played strong in defence to keep their opponents from scoring
till the final whistle.
At Navelim, a goal from either half saw Corps of Signals stun Salgaocar
FC to dent their dream of the Pro League title.
Corps of Signals scored through Harshad Thube in the 16th minute and
Pawan Thakur scored in the 57th minute to give them full points.
Salgaocar FC remain in fourth position with 20 points from 10 games
while Corps of Signals move out from relegation zone having six points
from nine game.

GFA Second Division League
Pilerne SC and Cunchelim SC draw
Pilerne Sports Club and Cunchelim Sports Club played out a 2-2 draw in
the Goa Football Association Second Division League match played at
Poriat ground, Calangute, on Friday.
Both the teams started the match on the equal footings. But Pilerne SC
played a better brand of football in the second quarter and deservingly
took the lead at the half hour mark through Anson D’Souza.
However, their joys were short-lived as Cunchelim SC levelled terms
within four minutes when Mahableshwar Thanekar scored with a sublime
long shot which had no answer from the rival keeper. The teams were tied
1-1 at the break. Crossing over, there was no different story as both
teams continued to attack in numbers and this time Mahableshwar
completed his brace against the run of play to give Cunchelim SC the
lead. in the 80th minute but Pilerne weren't the side to give up and
they did press their opponents in the attacking third in the final
minutes of the game and successfully managed to scored the equalising
goal through Deepak, 2-2.
GFA Third Division League
Yash strike give Mardol SC full points
Mardol Sports Club registered a solitary goal win over Kevnem Sports
Club in the Goa Football Association Third Division League Ilhas Zone
match played at Taleigao ground, on Friday.
Yash Kapse scored the lone goal of the match in the second session in
the 55th minute after both the teams played out a drab first half.
Kevvem SC tried their luck to find the equaliser but they couldn't get
past the rival defence till the very end.
GFA U-14 LEAGUE
Salcete FC, CSM Taleigao register wins
Salcete FC scored a resounding 3-0 win over Sirvodem Sports Club in the
Goa Football Association U-14 League match played at Artificial Turf
ground, on Friday.
Salcete FC, who had an impressive season so far, attacked from the word
go and didn't take long before they shot into lead in the 4th minute
through Thomson Cardozo. The young Sirvodem side put up a strong show to
hold Salcete FC in the first half, that saw the winning side have a
slender 1-0 lead in the first session.
Crossing over, Salcete FC took advantage of Sirvodem SC tired legs and
scored two more goals. Thomson completed his brace in the 54th minute
before Omkar Gaukar netted the team’s third in the second half injury
time.
Meanwhile at Pilar ground, Club Sao Miguel de Taleigao beat Fr Agnel
Pilar 3-1.
It was Fr Agnel who took the lead first through Seeraj Gupta but CSM
Taleigao came back strongly and levelled terms through Lizziah Carranco
in the 12th minute. The teams were tied 1-1 at the break.
Crossing over CSM Taleigao netted two more goals through Saren Fernandes
and Lizziah.

GFA U-16 LEAGUE
Churchill Bros thump Salgaocar FC;
Dempo SC edge past Goan FC
Churchill Brothers SC put up a commanding display against Salgaocar FC
in the Goa Football Association U-16 League match played at Ambelim
ground, on Friday.
The Red Machines playing against strong opponents didn't give any chance
for the Green Brigade to settle in the game and scored the first in the
11th minute through Richard Cardozo. The lad with his quick feet and
attacking prowess was too hot to handle for the Salgaocar FC defence as
he soon doubled the account to complete his brace in the 18th minute.
Aditya Salgaonkar scored the third at the half-hour mark to give
Churchill Brothers a well deserved three-goal cushion just before the
breather. Crossing over, Salgaocar FC did put a fighting display but
they couldn't score against a tough Varca based team. Churchill Bros
scored their fourth through Mevan Dias in the 66th minute to confirm
three points for Churchill Brothers.
At Ella ground, Dempo SC toiled before registering a hard fought 2-1 win
over Goan FC.
The Golden Eagles were lucky to walk away with three points as Sherwin
Abranches scored a 72nd minute match-winner in a nervy affair.
Earlier Sherwin had given the Golden Eagles 17th minute lead before
Veksly Paes netted the equaliser just before the breather. from the spot
kick Dempo SC netted the winning goal in the second half. Goan FC saw
Kunal V sent off for his second yellow card in the 78th minute.
