Salgaocar FC win; Guardian Angel held
Salgaocar Football Club registered an impressive 5-0 win over Calangute
Association while Guardian Angel Sports Club were held to their third
consecutive draw as they shared points with Corps of Signals in the Goa
Football Association Goa Professional League matches on Saturday.
After sharing points with Churchill Brothers and Panjim Footballers in
the last two matches, Guardian Ange were once again held to a
frustrating 2-2 draw despite being two goals up until the hour mark.
Joaquim Carvalho gave the Curchorem side the lead in the first half as
it turned out to be the only goal in the first session. Crossing over,
Nicholas Rodrigues continued to put up good performances and also
doubled the account for his side in the 50th minute. But Guardian Angel
couldn't sustain the lead as they conceded the first at the hour mark
when P Thakur reduced the margin before L Singh netted the equalising
goal in the 75th minute.
Ar Duler stadium, Ribhav Sardessai's double influenced Salgaocar FC to
record the impressive win. The lad opened the scoring in the 11th minute
and Ronaldo Oliveira doubled the tally in the very next minute. Down by
two goals in the opening quarter, Calangute Association had a mountain
to climb to get into the game but their fightback lost any hopes of
comeback as the winners striked twice before the break though Ribhav and
Godfrey Mascarenhas to give the agreed Brigade four goals advantage in
the first session. Changing ends, Rollwin Almeida netted the team's
fifth in the 47th minute. The full time score read 5-0 in favour of
Salgaocar FC.
