Highly improbable that the sunken ships’ captains would have been executed on neutral Portuguese territory.
Portuguese authorities would have never dared do it (for fear of German reprisals) and the British men who scuttled the ships off Mormugao would not have killed enemy personnel who were not an imminent physical danger to them on neutral space. Most probably they would have quietly melted away on a neutral ship back to a friendly port and eventually to Germany, or not, knowing a court martial awaited. Roland.
