The TAG must be appreciated for this novel ,meaningful and significant gesture , So also to select local dailies that give prominence and do not ignore it as repeated , feature and rewind Every month the Tiatrist born in the month and who have passed away are brought to life and their contributions are recalled . Their popular lyrics are Set to music for the audience. No other organisation of professionals conducts such unique regular, focussed programmes to honour and appreciate members of their community .It must be remembered that the Tiatrist are repositories of our customs ,traditions for maintaining and preserving our very identity During 450 years of foreign rule we were oppressed ,subjugated ,suppressed ,and Konkanni language was strangulated ,denoting it as lingua franca of lower strata of the society It is under such persecuted atmosphere the Tiatrist bodly dared to defy ,protest and give voice to our feelings and aspirations and kept alive our language in oral form It is through this medium ,Goan ethos ,life was promoted but then it was also not patronised by elite in the society .Presently the bias and prejudice associated with it has vanished and it has become popular medium of entertainment without barrier of classes,status and positions , a welcome change The TAG makes it a very emotional ,entertaining ,touching event well planned and organised at a considerable expense .TAG goes further to invite relatives and even presents memorable mementos and subsidises travelling cost of one relative My first experience at the felicitation of my teacher Prof C A Gomes has etched indelible memories of an unique gesture of gratitude to the artist of bygone era My humble salute to TAG for organising this programme The Govt of the day has promised to take it to international level by support so that it reaches greater audiences Goan Tiatr lovers have already staged shows to packed audiences in U.K., USA, Canada UAE taking our identityabroad and thus enriching the art form Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
