Indias priorities
It may not have been foreseen the weather event that has caused havoc in many
parts of India
The unprecedented floods have destroyed standing crops ,human and animal
life, trees have been uprooted causing death and devastation and houses have
been damaged beyond repairs
The economic loss and trauma will take years to recover and need allocations
of massive resources
The lack of management of dams, drainage system, building in economically
fragile environment , excessive mining and quarrying, loss of forest cover,
rivers dumped with mining rejects are some of the causes . The Gadgil report on
western ghats is lying dormant. The politicians are busy exploiting natural
resources for selfish ends
The authorities are busy , concentrating in J&K , Ladak integration with India
.That is the priority .The Central leadership is practically immune and
insensitive to the plight of the people in flood ravaged areas .Precious little
is done to solve their plight .The process of rehabilitation should have been
on war footing . ThePM has spoken little on the issue. His man ki bath is
devoted to J&K problem. The attention of the Nation is diverted to Northern
India Few aerial sorties by finance Minister and Home minister in the states of
interests are cosmetic in nature
No assessment of damage and funds allotment on priority as yet
It is the organisations , NGO and other foot soldiers providing the succour to
the needy. The calamity funds need to be augumented on a regular basis and
misuse and selective distribution be best avoided. The flood situation should
be treated as worst National calamity of unprecedented magnitude
Who is bothered about common people subjected to the vagaries of Nature
The attention to this natural calamity is not proportional to the demand of aid
and rehabilitation
God save the country. J&K can as well wait a little longer
