UK:Goan Chaplaincy Tiatr – Anchored in the Storms.

As the great Leonard Bernstein said, "To achieve great things, two things are
needed: a plan, and not quite enough time this is true of Anchored in the
storms a London England Tiatr production by Pilar Fathers written and directed
by Fr Lucas Rodrigues and organised for the Goan Chaplaincy London, Swindon and
Reading along with Fr Patrick Dsouza (Goan Chaplain) Fr Max Gonsalves and Fr
Jerry Fernandes who look after our spiritual needs. There was no Encore. No
Time.

Goan Tiatr a mirror of Goan Culture is over a 125 years old (1892 -2017) I
know this as a Postage stamp to celebrate was issued by the Indian Post Office
in June 2018. The musical Ensemble with wind and string instruments assisted by
modern day electric sound and lighting effects with artistic backdrops
produced a concerto and opera credit must go to the Drummer who held it all
together. All participants were well turned up and indeed Ambassadors for Goa
with their dress and diction on a perfect sound system for all performances
there was total silence to every nail biting line.

Every show was SOLD OUT no standing room due to a cancellation I was fortunate
to get a seat and ticket on one of two Kadamba style express coaches that
departed from the Goan settlements of Mitcham and Tooting to the early show at
Villers High School at Southall in West London. Having been held in traffic we
only just made it to be met by ushers to our seats.

My limited get by Knowledge of Konkani Comes from Music and Tiatr as a
teenager I can recall a discussion with M Boyer where he stated that our people
Live for Tiatr and Die for Tiatr this was the year I was fascinated with the
Infra-Red Microphone, no wires. I believe this to be the case today.

The gist of the show touched on teenagers who don’t talk at home are screen
attached. Having watched Pingu in the waiting room of my doctors surgery I
could also understand this also the loss of vocabulary amongst our young people.

Also featured was more Love for ones Bank Balance and assets than Love in the
Family Home.

There was the conflict of working overtime on a Sunday than attending Mass.
People wanting to Breakup their marriages as they are surrounded by one parent
families with all the facilities and false stories in breadline Britain. This
Used to be unheard of in our community.

I am obliged to British Asia news for their coverage and pictures as below. I
am sorry I do not have the names to go with the 51 pictures.

British Asia News Network - London

London, Sep 21: Fr Lucas Rodrigues, a priest hailing from Goa, India, and
presently serving Pilar Fathers, SS Peter & Paul church, has created waves
among London's Goan Konkani speaking community by penning and directing yet
another superhit, morale-boosting tiatr (stage play) mirroring the current
problems faced by the young generation around the world. The tiatr 'Vadollant
Rombla Nangor' (Anchored in the Storms) is the 8th written by Fr Lucas. The
beauty of the play is that except for two star tiatrists who arrived from Goa,
all the other artistes featured are from local Goan-UK talents.

The play showcases the evils of gambling and portrays how such bad habits
destroy families here in the UK. The story also highlights how it compels the
affected person to neglect family life, and especially its impact on young
children, besides showing how it leads to crime.

The play was complimented by songs and music that were not just beautiful but
meaningful as well.

The play has already been presented to two jam-packed shows in Swindon, and on
September 20 it was performed at Sadburry Primary School Hall, Waterford road,
Wembley in front of a houseful audience.

John D'Silva, movie actor and director, one of the finest star comedians who
has come all the way from Goa, together with comedian Dominic, added colour to
the show with rib-tickling comedy. Local comedians led by well-known Luis
Bachan also showcased a stupendous performance that provided a complete package
to the audience.

Young and emerging artistes, brought up here in the UK, proved to the audience
that the young generation is not shying away from Konkani language and the art
of tiatr. Andrea Desouza and Jeremiah Vaz captured the audience's hearts with
their performances exhibiting professional skills and talent.

Ace actor, former professional tiatrist Silvester Vaz and his wife Irene Vaz
along with son Jeremiah, with their exceptional talent coupled with passion,
showed the audience how a family can promote Konkani language and stage art
several thousands of miles away from Goa, while being settled here in the UK.

Other actors who excelled and entertained are Cajy Pereira, Soccoro Silva,
Divino Almeida, Jr Nelson, Felcy Rebello, Agnes D'Silva, Salu de Loutolim, Mark
de Araujo, Bab Andrew, Lawrence Mascarenhas, Zico Fernandes, Luis Bachan,
Albert Cabral, John Dsilva and comedian Dominic.

Framton De Sa (keyboard), Maria Fernandes (rythm guitar), Inacio Jao (bass) and
Mathias Sequiera (drums) provided the sonorous music while Gregg Carvallho
(light effects), Luis Gonsalves, Elvis Rapos (stage setting), Francis D'Silva,
and Luis Fernandes (stage management) made sure the play was a visual treat as
well.

The tiatr was produced by Fr Patrick Dsouza, Fr Max Gonslaves, Fr Jerry
Fernandes and Fr Lucas Rodrigues.

The show was organised by Pilar Fathers (UK) and Goan Chaplaincy (London &
Swindon / Reading).

On Sep 21 there will be another show at Southhall and the team is traveling to
Paris, France to present a show on Sunday, September 22 at 124, Rue Bagnolet,
Paris 75020.

Bella Fernandes, director of Goan Association in London, Richard Lobo, MD,
British Asia News were among the guests present to witness the successful and
meaningful tiatr.
