The government must clean the Mandovi River first before polluting other rivers in Goa.
It has been reported the rivers will contribute to a decrease of 30% of passengers on their way to various places in Goa by road. Impressive but we can do better. No need to pollute other rivers, and permission cannot be given unless the River Mandovi is first rid of pollution through cleaning it and not discarding the sewage and other pollutants into the sea only to repeat the same old story and tragedy - 30 years later! The government has to show application of mind on this serious issue and not indulge in a violent and environmentally unfriendly solution. The two railways - Southwest and Konkan - can work towards a solution to aid in the improvement of public transportation by linking the major towns and cities in Goa by train. We already have a car for every two people in Goa and this is not a sign of progress as the air is becoming more polluted and the traffic on the road is a nightmare to navigate all through the day and even at night. The railways need to be a part of the solution and not the problem as they are presently doing, unfortunately, by trying to transport more and more coal and even damaging heritage houses. They, unashamedly, shunt trains in from of heritage houses even at 3 or 4 in the morning. Please show the public some sign of intelligence and sensitivity and consideration for the senior citizens, and children who often have to prepare for various exams.
