This was a Bob Marley reggae hit in 1976 during his Natty Dread album tour at
the Lyceum Theatre in London. It was included in the 500 hits of all time by
Rolling Stone magazine.

Though Marley was a songwriter himself, he attributed the lyrics to his friend
Vincent Ford who ran a soup kitchen in Trent Town a Kingston, Jamaica
government project and ghetto where Marley grew up and which tells of the life
there. Marley was known for his attributions so that his less fortunate friends
could get lifetime royalties.

Although the cover of the song by the Fugees in 1997 in a Hip Hop version

popular.
