Towards the end of the nineteenth century, the British empire builders wanted to exploit the rich Kenya Highlands region by constructing a railway line from Mombasa to Nairobi.The building of the railway line was entrusted to British Railway engineers who had vast experience in connecting various cities to each other in India. They wanted experienced railway construction workers and they found them in northern India . These workers were shipped from Karachi port serving the then northern India to Mombasa. These type of workers could not possibly come from Goa as they had little experience with permanent way construction work
