Dear Alexandre People here in Dona Paula are everyday asking me when this letter is coming in Herald. Already Citizen Herald has passed on last Monday and this Monday is of no use because Independence day is on 15th Sat and the shrubs not yet been removed by CCP and GSIDC whereas all other areas around Dr Jack De Sequeira are cleared. This is the way to treat our Leader of Opinion Poll who saved Goa otherwise we all had to go to Maharashtra to get even a birth certificate. Please modify as per your own way and show the public Herald has not forgotten this great Leader. We need his pedestal photo Sir attached to the letter . I have sent you more photos on whatshap please select the best. Thanks
Stephen Dias Dona Paula 9422443110 ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: "Stephen Dias" <steve.dia...@gmail.com> Date: 9 Aug 2020 16:29 Subject: DON'T DISRESPECT MEMORY OF DR. JACK DE SEQUEIRA. To Citizen Herald please To: "Alexandre Moniz Barbosa" <amonizbarb...@gmail.com>, "secretary herald" <secret...@herald-goa.com> Cc: "editor" <edi...@herald-goa.com> DON'T DISRESPECT MEMORY OF DR. JACK DE SEQUEiRA Stephen Dias, Dona Paula The biggest statue of Dr. Jack de Sequeira in Goa, the Architect of Goa's unique identity and the Father of the Opinion Poll, the only referendum held in India since independence on 16th January, 1967 is located at NIO Circle, Dona Paula. This area is under the jurisdiction of the Corporation of City of Panjim. It is a great disrespect to the memory of the first Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly as although the surrounding area has been cleared up and bedecked in the run-up to the Independence day, only the portion of the circle where the statue of Dr. Jack de Sequeira is installed has not be cleared off by trimming the bushes and the shrubs in the circle by the CCP. The authorities including GSDIC should immediately clear this area and accord respect to the memory of Dr. Jack de Sequeira whose fluent rhetoric and charisma clinched the Opinion Poll verdict for keeping Goa a separate entity which is now a full-fledged state and has a Rajya Sabha MP, two Lok Sabha MPs and an Assembly consisting of 40 MLAs. This became possible only because of the efforts of Dr. Jack de Sequeira who conclusively clinched the Opinion Poll verdict and who was the main mastermind behind 19 constituencies in Goa, Daman and Diu then having voted against the merger while the merger forces could only muster 11 constituencies. It would be in the fitness of things that the Mayor of CCP maintain the NIO Circle with the pedestal and the statue of Dr. Jack de Sequeira spic and span. Had it not been for Dr. Jack de Sequeira's noble efforts, Goa would have become a backyard of Maharashtra with only two district and without a separate identity that the brainchild of the Opinion Poll so very stolidly fought for.
