Oh dear, the Reverend has omitted two Jesuits in his list of prominent Jesuits. These two I am referring to had a profound influence on the lives of a generation of Xavierites of Mapusa.
Fr. Edward D'Cruz founded St. Xavier;s College in Bastora - Goa's premier college. Without it, many of us would not be what we are today. Fr. Joseph Pallithanam, who was a scientist, ruled the Botany department of St. Xavier's college with an iron hand. He also was a guardian of the morals of the students and was famous for his little pamphlets on various aspects of behaviour and morals. He was pretty good at cartooning too and would often embellish his notices with cartoons. Some of the lessons he taught us while maintaining our botany journals can never be forgotten. His insistence on clean lines in drawing, horizontally placed labels, no over writing and no ugly erasures. He was a stickler for work being submitted on time. These things in later life became a way of life - not to mention that people (your truly included) who couldn't draw for nuts became fairly skilled at drawing. .From: Pratap Naik <pratapnai...@gmail.com> >To: goa...@goanet.org > Subject: [Goanet] The Jesuits are completing 480 years on 27th September 2020 Regards, Tony de Sa ♦Technical Editor ♦ Graphics ♦ IT Stuff ♦ DTP
