Despite the Supreme Court having clearly ruled time and again that public roads cannot be closed even for the movement of VVIP vehicles, the commuting public will face another traffic nightmare with BJP leader and now Vice- President of India Venkaiah Naidu on an 8 day long visit to our State. It will be unnecessary traffic chaos while the VVIP merrily weaves his way through.
Every visitor must be given a warm welcome but not at the cost of disrupting the traffic. The authorities are required to ensure that the free flow of vehicular traffic is not obstructed or blocked. We have time and again witnessed sheer incompetence by the traffic regulating authorities on account of which the commuting public is put to great inconvenience with traffic chaos all over. Such disruption of normal life is absolutely impermissible and unpardonable. May be its high time that our RTO and Traffic officials who currently have the expertise in only prosecuting the common men and women for minor traffic violations, are now professionally trained on proper traffic management. There is no reason why a well thought out plan cannot be put in place to execute for every visiting dignitary and major events in the state rather than having people being needlessly inconvenienced due to the pathetic failures and negligence by the authorities. Let us hope that Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu while in Goa takes some time to impress on his contractor son-in-law Venkata Rao about the need to ensure high quality works in the construction of roads and other government projects which over the last many years have been all selectively given to him. May be the Vice-President should inspect and see for himself the shoddy works across Goa by Venkata Rao’s MVR Infra Projects Pvt Ltd which are there for all to see.
