Traveling in Portugal  a significant Indian presence in the cities cannot be
missed.

It seems a lot of Indian merchants who had originally migrated to  Angola and
Mozambique, subsequently migrated to continental Portugal after the
independence of those two African countries and set up businesses there.
And of course we have Dr. Antonio Costa the very popular and successful Prime
Minister of Portugal not to mention so many other outstanding Goans.

Interesting to note the  conflict of those individuals  born in the African
continent that carry the Goan or Indian ethos having to deal with a triple
identity: Goan /Indian, their native African and now Portuguese where they are
trying to integrate themselves.
This is substantive write up by Rupa Chanda and Sriparna Ghosh from the Indian
Institute of Management Bangalore. Kudos to them.

Thanks to Frederick Noronha for the post.
Here is the best quote from the paper:

"Perhaps nothing better sums up the evolving relationship between India and
Portugal and implicitly the role of the Indian diaspora in shaping this
relationship than the following quote:"
“The ironies of history are truly remarkable. Half a millennium ago, Portuguese
vessels roamed the Malabar coast, searching for ports of entry to the rich
Indian and eastern spice markets. Today, Portugal comes to India promoting
itself as a port of entry to the West and as a strategic platform for Indian
interests in Europe, Africa and Latin America.”6161 Xavier (2012)
