Interesting but sad video to see the ending of a rite of passage at one period
of time for several Goan villagers, who used their Bombay clubs as transit to
await calls for their ship jobs or to use as residence while in city employment.

This purposes no longer arise. Communications to join ships either from the
agents or from their union, comes electronically. Travel from Goa to Bombay is
daily and frequent, and domestic workers from Goa for Bombay’s homes and
establishments have been replaced by tourism jobs in Goa and employment in the
Gulf.

This is one of several videos documenting life in those clubs that have
appeared over the years. It appears to be a joint effort by media students
funded by a Bollywood actor’s generosity and is reasonably presented. Great for
the archives because it captures the melancholy.
