Hei Readers,

I was prompted by the LA Church topic to add a cautionary note about
confessionals. Here is what you can read on the net "Argentine priest
in Dirty War trial". Here are extracts.

This one from Agentina.
"Von Wernich would visit prisoners after horrific torture sessions and
asked them to trust him, to give him information in exchange for an
improvement in the conditions of their detention," Carlos Zaidman, a
survivor of one of the detention camps, said."

"The prosecution said, in a statement read to the court, that: Von
Wernich participated assiduously and maintained direct contacts with
the detainees and was fully complicit in the crimes committed by the
state."

"It must be clear that the Church is not on trial, but that the role
played by its hierarchy during the dictatorship Guadalupe Godoy, a
lawyer representing some of the victims, said."

Here is from Chile
"Chilean priest, a Pinochet supporter, draws fire - Catholic priest
and television broadcaster Raul Hasbun;
At a military gathering in August, he referred to Chilean Socialists
as 'parasites' and 'bloodsuckers.' Despite the Socialists
'intrinsically unpatriotic' attitudes, he said, some people are
willing to allow them to 'guide the country's destiny at the highest
levels.' "

I guess all religions are about "good" and it is the singers not the
song that we need to guard against. You should take care of what you
say to who. You could be giving information that could endanger your
life or those of others. There could be agent provocateurs in our
midst that we do not know about. It is getting to be a shrinking and
dangerous world. Manipulation and guile can be disarming.

I cited two cases of Agentina and Chile. I suspect that we are and
have not been immune past or present. Our basic instincts are good.
However, we should be on alert and do something about it when we see
:-
Politicians use the religion card
The enemy within (spies, traitors and agents provocateurs.)
Abusers of power
The chain of corruption.

Take care.
