Digambar wins trust vote

Sandesh Prabhudesai
30 July 2007

Chief minister Digambar Kamat won the trust vote
today, after restraining two MGP MLAs and one Congress
MLA from voting.

The trust vote was passed by voice vote amidst
pandemonium and a walkout staged by the opposition
members.

Prior to the Assembly session, speaker Pratapsing Rane
restrained MGP legislators Sudin and Dipak Dhavalikar
as well as Congress MLA Victoria Fernandes from
voting.

They were allowed to sit in the House. However
Fernandes did not attend the session even today.

Rane did not take up division vote, but, surprisingly
said that he had cast his vote.

The budgetary demands were also later on passed and
the House wad adjourned sine die.

Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar later told that
they are rushing to the Raj Bhavan, demanding
dismissal of the government since it is still in the
minority.

Meanwhile, Rane has fixed next hearing of the
petitions on 13th August.

By restraining three MLAs, the number had boiled down
to 18 on both the sides, keeping the speaker aside.

It is still not known on what basis the speaker has
announced passing of the motion in such a situation.
