*Tiatr Academy of Goa to Honour Eminent Artistes at “Mhalgoddea Tiatristancho Bhouman” on February 27* The Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG), in collaboration with Ravindra Bhavan Margao, will organise “Mhalgoddea Tiatristancho Bhouman” on February 27 at 3.30 pm at the Pai Tiatrist Auditorium, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. The programme aims to honour distinguished artistes and celebrate their invaluable contribution to Goa’s tiatr tradition. The highlight of the function will be the presentation of the Lifetime Contribution to Tiatr Awards 2025 (Commercial), instituted in memory of Sorgest Pai Tiatrist Joao Agostinho Fernandes. This year’s awardees are Leslie Pereira, Santano Pereira and Joaquim Lorenco Fernandes, popularly known as Jack Ferry. Over the years, these artistes have made remarkable contributions to commercial tiatr through acting, direction, writing and music, earning them recognition and respect within the tiatr fraternity. The Young Achievers Awards 2025, instituted in memory of Sorgest Regina Fernandes, will also be presented during the event. The awardees — Maria Swizel Afonso, Fevila Fernandes, Pierson Paulo D’Costa and Aston Soares — are being recognised for their promising talent and dedication to tiatr at a young age. The awards seek to encourage emerging artistes and ensure the continuity of the traditional art form. The programme will also feature the release of the book ‘Kantar Kor’, authored by Edwin D’Costa. Additionally, prizes will be distributed to the winners of the 13th Children’s Tiatr Competition organised by TAG, which provides a valuable platform for young performers to showcase their skills and gain stage experience. Nilesh Cabral, MLA of Curchorem constituency, will attend the function as the chief guest. Platilda Afonso e Dias, a veteran tiatrist, will be the guest of honour. Special invitees include Sharmila Fernandes, granddaughter of the late Joao Agostinho Fernandes, and Rajendra Talak, Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. Speaking about the event, Anthony Barbosa, President of the Tiatr Academy of Goa, said the academy remains committed to honouring senior artistes while nurturing the next generation. “Tiatr is an integral part of Goa’s cultural identity. Through these awards and competitions, we strive to preserve and promote this vibrant art form,” he said. Barbosa appealed to tiatr lovers across the state to participate in larger numbers and extend their support to the artistes. “I urge all tiatr enthusiasts and members of the public to attend the function in large numbers. Your presence will encourage the artistes and strengthen our collective efforts to keep tiatr alive and thriving,” he added. TAG has extended an open invitation to the public to attend the programme and be part of the celebration of Goa’s rich tiatr heritage. Sd/- *Carlos Fernandes* Member Secretary
