It warrants reproduction here: India's [read Goa's] report card reads "Pass marks only" when it should have shown "Distinction". So what stopped us from achieving this goal? Depressing as it sounds the buck stops with our politicians who lacked both the vision and the commitment to get us there. The Slumber Kings of India [shades of the famed Goa syndrome!] are the ones who govern us.... Their lazy motto? Let the toiling masses slave away. Sure, while netas do 'aish' and dream big. For themselves, not the nation [state]." So much for the positive aspect of the poll. Now for some (more) negative aspects. The tagging on of "citizens who dont speak up" as the alter ego of politicians is a good way to tug at the heart strings of ordinary people (the mea culpa factor). What is the danger of unthinkingly choosing this option? You implicitly accept the label of being "dumb". At the same time you absolve the journos of this charge because they do write and say something, (its their job), even if much of it (with rare exceptions) is sub-standard. If you dont opt for it, then you are guilty of the charge of blaming "others" when you know you yourself have not "spoken up". So you are damned if you do and damned if you dont. This kind of tactic is used by manipulative folks and its NOT good.
